Wisdom Wednesday Short: Creating a Sacred Bathing Ritual
with Linda from Two Crones and a Microphone
Hello, my name is Linda, and I’m part of Two Crones and a Microphone. Today, I’m going to show you how to create a sacred bathing space for yourself—something you can bring into your own home with ease and intention.
We’ve explored the sacred meanings of water and water rituals in several episodes, and now I want to share a simple, beautiful way you can deepen your connection with water through ritual.
What Is Sacred Bathing?
Sacred bathing has been practiced for thousands of years. Whenever there is water and living beings, there’s the opportunity for healing, restoration, and communion. People have dipped into water for medicinal care, spiritual alignment, and self-love across cultures and centuries.
In this short video, I’ll walk you through a simple ritual you can try at home. This is just one way—there are thousands. What matters is your intention.
Ritual and Water
The word ritual comes from Latin and Greek roots meaning “to flow” or “to stream.” Rituals are repeated actions that reconnect us to the stream of life. Libations—liquids like water, tea, wine—are often poured with sacred intent to honor or bless.
Water holds vibration. Like a gong struck with care, it carries the energy of whatever is added to it—song, spoken prayer, emotion. Love, healing, clarity—whatever you ask it to carry, it receives.
So let’s begin.
Materials & Tools
You can use any kind of basin or bowl. Today, I’m using a bowl and a pitcher passed down through my family.
- Bowl – for a hand or foot bath
- Herbs – such as rose petals, lavender, lemon balm, or hibiscus
- Salt – a crystal that holds energetic charge
- Essential oil – I’m using a drop of lavender
- Crystal – optional, but can help anchor your intention
- Tea bag or muslin cloth – to steep your herbs cleanly in water
Preparing the Ritual Bath
- Fill your tea bag with a mix of herbs. I like rose petals, lavender (which is both antimicrobial and relaxing), lemon balm (to lift the spirit), and hibiscus (for beauty and calm).
- Add a teaspoon of salt for cleansing and energetic charge.
- Place the tea bag and any crystals into your bowl.
- Add water—hot, warm, or cool, depending on your intention and use.
- Add a drop of essential oil if desired.
You can also do this in a bathtub, using a larger muslin bag or steeping herbs in advance and straining the liquid into your bath.
Charging the Water with Intention
To activate the water, rub your hands together to awaken the energy centers in your palms. Then hover your hands over the water in a triangle shape. Feel for warmth, fullness, or tingling—whatever resonates.
Now, speak or sing your intention. I like to sing the word “Love.” You can also use affirmations like:
- “I dedicate this water to my loving transformation.”
- “May this water bless and heal me.”
Once you feel the intention has been received, you can circle your hands three times clockwise over the bowl and then separate them—sealing the charge.
Another activation method is to run your fingers through the water in a figure eight, the infinity symbol. This helps refresh and circulate energy, especially in a larger tub.
A Note on Water Memory
Dr. Masaru Emoto, author of The Hidden Messages in Water, showed that water holds memory. His photographs of water crystals revealed that water blessed with love, gratitude, or positive words formed beautifully structured crystals—whereas unblessed water remained chaotic and unformed. You are relating to water when you do this. You’re participating in sacred exchange.
Going Deeper
If this practice speaks to you, I recommend the book Spiritual Bathing: Healing Rituals and Traditions from Around the World by Nadine Epstein and Rosita Arvigo. It’s a rich, accessible resource covering practices from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Shinto, Mayan, Native American, and African traditions.
So that’s it. A bowl, some herbs, your voice, your intention. That’s all it takes to begin.
Until next time, go find your glimmer—and be well.
